MMA sparring requires specific gloves — neither standard boxing gloves nor lightweight grappling gloves are suitable. MMA sparring gloves (7 oz) offer enough padding to protect your partner, semi-open fingers for grips and wrist support adapted to stand-up to ground transitions. The RDX range covers every level, from entry-level to IMMAF-approved models. Swiss shipping via DPD, delivery in 2 to 3 working days.

RDXSports.ch is the official RDX Sports store for Switzerland. Authentic models, Swiss warranty, support in EN/FR/DE.

Sparring gloves vs grappling gloves: what is the difference?

MMA sparring gloves (7 oz)
More padded, knuckle and partner protection in stand-up sparring. Semi-open fingers for basic grips. Ideal format for sparring with moderate punch contact.
Grappling gloves (4-6 oz)
Very light, open fingers, designed for ground work and quick grips. Less padding — not suited for punch sparring. For grappling, technique and light pad work.
Practical advice
For full MMA sparring (stand-up + transitions), 7oz sparring gloves are the right choice. For pure grappling sessions (no strikes), grappling gloves are sufficient.

7 oz: why this weight?

In MMA competition, gloves weigh 4 oz. For sparring, 7 oz is the standard that offers enough padding to practise strikes safely while keeping the finger mobility needed for grips and ground transitions. Some clubs use heavier gloves (8-10 oz) for sparring beginners.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use standard boxing gloves for MMA sparring?
No. Boxing gloves (10-16 oz) have closed fingers that make gripping impossible. For MMA sparring, semi-open gloves designed for stand-up to ground transitions are mandatory.
How do you maintain MMA sparring gloves?
Wipe the inside after every session. Air out before storing (never put away damp in a closed bag). Disinfect once a week with a specialist spray. Lifespan with regular use: 1-3 years depending on intensity.
What size to choose?
MMA sparring gloves are generally one size or S/M/L based on hand circumference. Check the size guide on each product page.
