Open fingers vs semi-open Shooter format

Open fingers (F12, F6 KARA, F15 Noir, Aura Plus)
Maximum finger freedom for grips, submissions and chokes. Ideal for grappling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA technique without strikes.
Shooter format (Aura Plus T-17 Shooter, IMMAF)
Partially covered fingers, more protection for light strikes. Recommended for mixed grappling and striking technique sessions.

What grappling gloves do not replace

Grappling gloves (4-6 oz, open fingers) are not designed for MMA punch sparring. For sparring sessions with contact, use the 7oz MMA sparring gloves which offer enough padding to protect your partner.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use grappling gloves in Brazilian jiu-jitsu?
Yes. Open-finger grappling gloves are particularly suited to Brazilian jiu-jitsu with technical strikes. In pure competition jiu-jitsu (no strikes), they are generally not required.
Do you need hand wraps under grappling gloves?
Recommended for long sessions. Inner gloves stabilise the wrist, absorb sweat and extend the lifespan of the gloves.
How do you maintain grappling gloves?
Wipe after every session. Air out before storing. Disinfect once a week with a specialist spray. Never store damp.
