Open head guard (no cheeks)
Maximum field of vision, reduced weight. Protects forehead and temples but not cheekbones. For light technical sparring where hard shots are avoided.
Head guard with cheeks (cheek protector)
The club sparring standard. Covers forehead + temples + cheekbones. Limits eyebrow cuts on hooks. Recommended for 95% of practitioners.
Head guard with nose bar
Adds a metal or composite guard over the nose. For heavy sparring, previously broken noses or competitors who spar hard. Slightly reduces central field of vision.
Removable cage (T1)

Does a head guard prevent concussions?
A head guard reduces cuts and direct bone impacts (nose, eyebrow, cheekbone) but does not prevent concussions caused by head rotation. It remains essential in sparring, but concussions are best prevented through controlled sparring technique and a respectful partner.
How do you maintain a head guard?
Wipe the inside after every session (sweat accelerates padding breakdown). Air it out before storing. For models with a removable cage, check the fastenings every 3 months. Club lifespan: 2-4 years for mid-range models, 5-8 years for the Mark Pro leather.
Is the F6 KARA approved for amateur competition?
For official competition (Swiss Boxing, WAKO), check your federation's approved equipment list. Generally, federations require a regulation red or blue head guard — black head guards are not permitted in competition, only in training.
What is the difference between the T1 removable cage and the APEX Cheek?
The T1 with removable cage gives usage flexibility (cage on = full protection, cage off = lighter). The APEX Cheek is a fixed wide-cheek head guard, bulkier, without the T1's versatility but with a larger cheek absorption surface.
How do I choose my head guard size?
Measure your head circumference above the ears at forehead level. S/M generally fits 54-58 cm, L/XL fits 58-62 cm.
