Why boil-and-bite moulding is essential

Before moulding
Generic protection that doesn't sit well in the mouth, can restrict breathing and causes constant jaw tension. You tend to spit out or remove the mouth guard between rounds.
After moulding
A mouth guard fitted to your exact teeth: stays in place without clenching, doesn't restrict breathing, absorbs impacts exactly where needed. You forget it's there — which is the whole point.

How to mould your 3W mouth guard

  1. Heat water to 90°C (without boiling).
  2. Immerse the mouth guard for 30 seconds, then take it out with a spoon.
  3. Let it cool for 3-4 seconds (don't burn yourself).
  4. Place it in your mouth, bite down firmly and press your fingers against your cheeks for 20 seconds.
  5. Dip it in cold water to set the mould.
  6. If you're not happy with the result, repeat (the material can be moulded 2-3 times).

Is a double mouth guard necessary?
In contact sparring, a double guard (protecting top and bottom) is recommended: an uppercut can knock the lower teeth into the upper ones. The 3W covers both. In competition, some federations only allow a single guard (top only) — check the rules.
How long does an RDX 3W mouth guard last?
6 to 18 months depending on use. Replace it as soon as you notice deformation, signs of tearing, or the mould no longer holds well. If you spar 3x/week, plan to replace it every year.
Do I need a special mouth guard if I wear braces?
Yes. With fixed braces, you need a dedicated orthodontic mouth guard (thicker, covers the brackets). Consult your orthodontist before choosing a model.
How do I clean my mouth guard?
Rinse with cold water after each session (never hot water — it deforms the mould). Disinfect 1x/week with an antiseptic mouth guard solution. Store it in the case provided, away from heat.
What is the most common buying mistake?
Choosing a single mouth guard (top only) to avoid restricting breathing, then taking an uppercut and ending up with broken lower teeth. The double-thickness 3W is less obtrusive than a poorly fitted budget model — it's the moulding that makes the difference, not the thickness. Tip: if your mouth guard feels uncomfortable after moulding, mould it again — it's rarely the product, it's the technique.
