Quick view
The sound that defines a boxing gym. Hanging from its platform, the speed bag rebounds in a hypnotic rhythm – and listening to someone who really knows how to work it is like hearing a musical signature. Beyond the show, it is one of the best tools for developing hand speed, rhythm and shoulder endurance. Shipped across Switzerland with DPD, delivered in 2 to 3 working days.
RDXSports.ch is the official RDX Sports store for Switzerland. Genuine products, Swiss warranty, support in FR/DE/EN.
Which speed bag for which level?
- Getting started / first purchase → RDX S2 Speed Bag – entry-level leather model, easy inflation, good durability for learning the rhythm.
- Classic boxing gym look → RDX 2Y yellow Speed Bag – authentic yellow leather finish, the traditional boxing club aesthetic.
- Regular use / experienced athletes → RDX F6 KARA Speed Ball + steel swivel – premium Maya Hide Leather, steel swivel included for smooth, quiet rotation. The best-seller of the range.
Why train on a speed bag?
Beyond the spectacle, the speed bag develops specific qualities that the heavy bag doesn't touch:
- Pure hand speed
- A high punch rate that is impossible to sustain on a heavy bag. Your hands learn to fire again quickly.
- Shoulder endurance
- Arms held high continuously for several minutes – exactly what simulates end-of-round fatigue.
- Rhythm & coordination
- You strike on the rebound (triplet: ball-platform-ball-platform). It is neurological before it is physical.
- Hand-eye coordination
- Fast visual tracking of a moving, repetitive target. Excellent for your sense of timing.
- Sport-specific cardio
- Cardiovascular intensity rises fast – 3 rounds of 3 minutes on the speed bag is hard, really hard.
Installation and set-up
The speed bag attaches to a rigid platform (platform / swivel base) mounted on the wall or ceiling. RDX sells the bag on its own; the platform is bought separately or built yourself. Here are the guidelines:
- Height – the bottom of the bag should sit between your mouth and the top of your forehead when standing. Too high = arms tire quickly; too low = poor striking angle.
- Platform – minimum 60 cm in diameter so the bag can rebound freely. Wall mounting on a beam or a solid ceiling.
- Swivel – the joint that allows rotation. Choose a steel ball-bearing swivel: quiet, smooth, long-lasting. Avoid plastic swivels, which squeak and seize up quickly.
- Inflation – all RDX speed bags are inflatable (valve included). Medium pressure: firm but slightly yielding to the touch. Too hard = rebound too fast to read; too soft = sluggish, frustrating rebound.
Beginner's tip: start with slow, steady punches (single rebound) and find the rhythm before attempting the fast rebound (triplet). The frustration disappears after 2–3 sessions.
Speed bag vs double-end ball vs heavy bag
- Speed bag (this page) – fast, repeated rebound movement against a platform. For hand speed and shoulder endurance.
- Double-end ball – vertical & lateral movement, simulates a human target. For timing and reflexes.
- Heavy bag – powerful, sustained punching. For power and general endurance.
All three are different tools with different goals. A complete home gym ideally has all three; if you are just starting, begin with the heavy bag, then add the speed bag second and the double-end ball third.
Why buy from RDXSports.ch?
RDX speed bags are available in Switzerland from several retailers, including Decathlon and Galaxus. On the brand's official website:
- Three RDX models – entry-level S2, classic yellow 2Y and premium F6 KARA with steel swivel included.
- Installation advice – platform, height, inflation: we guide you before you buy.
- Swiss warranty handled locally in FR/DE/EN.
- Free DPD delivery from CHF 100, same-day dispatch for orders before 12 noon.
Complete your training set-up
- Training gloves – 12oz is enough for speed bag work, no need for anything heavier.
- Hand wraps & inner gloves – the high punch rate is hard on knuckles and wrists, so protect them.
- Punch bags – the ideal partner for the speed bag.
- Double-end balls – timing and slipping, a different family of tools.
- Skipping ropes – the standard warm-up.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does it take to master the speed bag rhythm?
- 3 to 5 sessions to reach a decent rhythm on the single rebound (1 punch = 1 rebound). 10 to 20 sessions for the fast rebound (triplet, 3 rebounds between 2 punches). It is more neurological than physical: a fit beginner can progress faster than an experienced but stiff boxer.
- Do I need to buy the platform separately?
- Yes, RDX sells the bag and the swivel (on the F6 KARA), not the platform. A wood/metal platform can be bought from a specialist retailer or built yourself (60 cm in diameter, fixed to a load-bearing beam). Expect to pay CHF 100–300 for a good off-the-shelf platform.
- Yellow 2Y, S2 or F6 KARA: what is the real difference?
- S2 = entry-level leather model, perfect for learning on a small budget. 2Y = same function, classic yellow boxing-gym leather finish (an aesthetic choice). F6 KARA = premium Maya Hide Leather, more durable, and includes the steel swivel (a big plus for regular training).
- Steel vs plastic swivel – does it really matter?
- Yes. A plastic swivel starts squeaking after 2–3 months and blocks rotation, which distorts the rebound and breaks your rhythm. A steel ball-bearing swivel stays smooth for years. If your bag comes without one, plan to buy one.
- Can I use a speed bag in a flat?
- Possible but noisy: the characteristic "rat-tat-tat" resonates through the platform and the building. Avoid it in apartment blocks after 8 pm. Choose a wall shared with your garage or your own room, not with your neighbours' bedroom.
- How long does an RDX speed bag last?
- 3 to 6 years depending on use. The leather holds up well (RDX bags outlast most budget synthetic competitors). The inflation valve and the swivel are the parts that give out first. The F6 KARA lasts significantly longer than the S2 when used 4–5 times a week.
