Minimum protection kit by level

Beginner — bag and pad work only

Hand wraps or inner gloves + training gloves. No sparring yet = no need yet for a head guard, mouth guard or groin guard.

Intermediate — first sparring sessions

Hand wraps + head guard with cheek protection + mouth guard + groin guard (men) + 14–16oz sparring gloves. This kit covers 90% of club sparring sessions.

Advanced — regular sparring / competition

Previous kit + chest guard (Aura Plus or T15 Noir) + CE-certified groin guard (MMA). For amateur boxing: regulation red or blue head guard depending on your federation.

Coach

Chest protector (F6 KARA or Mark Pro) for pad sessions. Hand wraps and inner gloves at all times.

When should you replace your protective gear?

Hand wraps

1–3 years depending on washing and use. Replace them when the elastic no longer springs back.

Head guard

2–4 years in a club for mid-range models, 5–8 years for the leather Mark Pro. Signs: foam that "compresses", hook-and-loop that holds less well.

Mouth guard

6–18 months. Replace it as soon as the moulding no longer holds or you see tears.

Groin guard / chest guard

3–5 years for mid-range, longer for genuine leather (Mark Pro).

Where should I start when buying protective gear?

Is RDX gear compatible with official competition in Switzerland?

Some models are (T1 WAKO, L1/L2 Mark Pro, APEX CE), others are for training only. Always check the list of approved equipment with your federation (Swiss Boxing, WAKO Switzerland, IMMAF Switzerland) before competing.

What protection do I need for Muay Thai?

In addition to the standard sparring kit: knee pads (for knee strikes to the body) and shin guards (to absorb kicks) — available in the parent collection here or from a specialist. A groin guard is mandatory in men's Muay Thai competition.
